What is Eldritch / Cosmic Horror?
Eldritch/cosmic horror is a subgenre of horror that emphasizes the horror of the unknowable and incomprehensible, rather than elements such as gore, violence, or shock. The moderators of this zine recognise the author most often referenced as the founder of this genre was deeply problematic, even by the standards of his contemporaries. However, Eldritch Horror has grown beyond him, and others from all walks of life have gone on to create exceptional works in this genre. Additionally, the word "eldritch" has a different etymology separate from that author. From The Etymology and Meanings of Eldritch (linked above):
We might do better, then, to understand eldritch in the etymological sense which I have proposed, of ‘otherworldly’—which is congruent with the definition in the Scottish National Dictionary: ‘weird, ghostly, uncanny, unearthly, hideous, esp. of sound; often applied to persons, things and places, usually to denote some connection with the supernatural’.
Hall, Alaric (2007) The Etymology and Meanings of Eldritch. Scottish Language, 26. pp. 16-22. ISSN 0264 0198
Stories in this genre often feature themes such as: fear of the unknown, supernatural / extraterrestrial influences, erosion of presumptions about the nature of reality, mankind’s place in the grand scheme of things, protagonists faced with unfathomable powers. For a full list of examples of media featuring eldritch horrors, please check out our info doc.

Lurking in the darkness, Shadow slithers forth to dispatch the occasional tale of discord and debauchery. Lingering at edges of perceivable reality, she can only be roused to consciousness by the prospect of weaving new cryptic texts, lagomorphs, or baked goods.
Writing Mod: Molly
Head/Writing Mod for Manakete Millennium | Writing Mod for An Eternity With You (MarignatzZine) | Organiser of #BlueLionsWeek | Writer/Beta Mod for Dimileth Big Bang
MxMearcstapa, known to some as Molly, was lured from the depths of murky waters with a few drops of blood and the promise of a fresh meal. They are tethered here by an abundance of sushi and a love of storytelling, though they remain elusive. If located, please stay clear of their teeth.

Art/Merch Mod for Dimileth: Seasons of Change | Co-Mod for Dimileth Tarot Event | Writer Contributor in Desperately In Love and Mo Ghrá

From ashes and flames, the entity known as Moira was summoned to the world with the intention of bringing carnage and destruction. Unbeknownst to the dark ones, they were far more interested in the idea of creation, ancient stories, and a bowl full of ramen to keep the stomach happy.
Graphics Mod: Windy
Graphics Mod for Manakete Millennium | Writer Mod for Love, Manuela | Contributor for Various Zines
The soul of one FearlessWindy awoke from her slumber after countless years floating in the cosmos, starving and alone. Art Mod: Amanda
Art Mod for Seal the Darkness | Art Mod for Manakete Millennium | Contributor for Various Zines
Taking the form of a sweet and guileless child-woman, ‘Amanda’ is secretly a gnarled and ancient being who lures the hapless internet traveler into her lair with smiles and shiny baubles (usually fan art), consuming their fandom enthusiasm in order to stay youthful for eternity. Her weakness is fried potatoes.
Shipping & Finance Mod: Lexi
Finance Mod for Written in the Stars | Org., Finance & Shipping Mod for Prismatic | Org., Finance & Shipping Mod for Divine Overture
To the mortal eye, Lexi appears as a small fleeting shadow - mistaken by some as a tiny cat scurrying out of view. However, come the witching hour what emerges from that shadowy form is a horror that cannot be captured on paper or in film. Never fear, Lexi has two fatal flaws: shiny trinkets and catboys.
Social Media Mod: Lily
Social Media Mod for Manakete Millennium | Co-Head/Social Media Mod for Monado: A Xenoblade 1 Zine | Co-organizer for Xenoblade countdowns
